'My paintings are stories without words. Images, meticulously painted, search for answers. Dimensions are mutated and shaped to take on forms which only exist in dreams. The sense and nonsense as in the meaning of life are thoroughly stirred to result in questions. That is essentially what it is all about, to create tension by using recognisable photographically painted objects, figures and landscapes which join in one frame to speak an unintelligible language but non the less leave a feeling of coherence. A sense of recognition. Something remembered, nearly forgotten but still present. The suggestion that materials are not what they seem after manipulation, transformation and distortion.
Beauty is not in the object, beauty is in the mind of the observer. That is why observation plays such an important role. The question is: “Does my feeling conform to the overall picture I use”. The original feeling will be exposed to associative images to complement my story. In this manner I spin and weave until I am satisfied with the result
To me stories with an open end are the best. There must be questions left to ask. I don’t have all the answers. I just express what I suspect. For that matter working on my paintings is exhilarating and offers me energy. Just like being in love. A fantastic frame of mind to live with. But also very fragile.'
